MySpace 2.0 Profiles
I was following up on Techcrunch and saw the article about MySpace 2.0 profiles. Its currently beta and can be tested if you visit MySpace Canada. Once you have signed in directly to MySpace Canada you should find a link in your Home page where you can upgrade your profile to test out the new changes.
Give it a try and let us know what you think of the new layout. We are still at a very early stage of v2 so its still easy to make changes, anything you see interesting with the new MySpace layout let us know.

Hi, natio
That`s a A Good Idea
That`s Cool. it`s Easy & user friendly Interface. !!
natio ,
Add this to ver 2 it will be new experience for phpfox people !!

Oh yes that is HOT!. I love the drag and drop as well the ability to hide certain items from non-friends.
[Reply]
I agree. The drag and drop is definitely something we will have to add. As well as Ajax inline editing in case they wanted to edit something directly from their profile instead of visiting the general “My Account >> Edit” area.

Yes… also i whould love to see the rounded courners instead of the squre ones for V2…. Thank you…

The current design we have for v2 has a lot more rounded corners compared to v1.6.x. The old square boxy look of phpFox is gone and we are moving forward with a clean web 2.0 design.
Band profiles will be part of v2. This is just one type of profile, the system we had in mind was to allow Admins to create different types of profiles whether it was for business, bands, social networking, actors etc…

Yes there are alot of feature requests that are very one dimensional we have to make it easier by thinking about the wider spectrum and not just our own requirements.

Natio, I’m really looking forward for the next version. One thing is is to look at Socialengine were making a plugin or a mod is a breeze and cusrtomizing source as well. And last scalability.. Make sure even if you charge more for a enterprise version with load balancing etc…

Luca, why would they need to charge more? Where does that leave people with Lifetime Licenses? Would we have access to it or would we need to pay a fee even though we were guaranteed to never pay a fee again? In order to accomplish that task, PHPFox will have to keep promises, but for those licenses that have renewals would be the ones affected by new price structure changes. I’ve seen this in many cases before and it worked out well in the end even though a few fussed about it in the beginning. But remember by making such a bold statement that you can’t think PhPfox will ungrandfather the Lifetime Licenses(currently not available)?

Hey Ray, one sweet thing i want to be added in the Var 2 is also to put in the crush alert area a way for the members to guess pictures and not usernames. When someone sends a crush alert, and that person looks it up, it display random pictures of other users including the person that sent that crush alert. The admin can choose how many people as they want to be displayed as the random thing. Then when the user that recieved the crush, clicks on about 3 or 5 pictures(guesses) then it denies or accepts it. Please take that into consideration as it will be a very cool mod.

Great idea!
I added it to my to-do list and when developing the crush alert module I will make sure to add this as an extra added option.
hi Ray.. with regards to different types of profiles.. this is GREAT news.. I would like to add.. it’s important that we are able to have a direct link to browse each particular profile type.. or maybe even a module.. so it can be put on the music page.. or something. Do you know what I mean? You should be able to go to a particular page to browse profiles of a certain profile type.. rather than just filter from the main browse page. Am I making sense and do other concur? I’m so glad communication has improved. very exciting.

I have a clever suggestion for that… If they implement a Members Online today and a Group Legend(profile types in different colors) then you can simply click the group link and it brings up everyone in that group only and then on that page you can continue to refine your search. Here is example > http://www.clubugly.com/icuforum/forums.html
Look in the footer at active members list there is a group legend under it… You can click each group and the results will be for that user type only.

Sounds good. We will work in a page where you can view all the members for a specific profile group. We will include a search filter in case users would like to do a filtered search like ClubUgly suggested.

I think it would be great to have all the code work with myspace layouts 100% as there will always be a ton of sources for myspace layouts, giving phpfox owners a real edge. Nothing works that well currently.

Thanks for your comment.
Myspace layouts is something we haven’t been able to fully clone because of legal reasons. What we could do for phpFox2 is release our own layout commercially, and then release a free open source plug-in that would clone the Myspace layout. This still might cause problems for clients using the layout since it would require cloning the CSS class names. In any case we will see what we can do to make this happen for phpFox2.

better off leaving this to 3rd parties to provide a hack for, then it eliminates any legal issues

Myspace are not the creators of that and the method has been around for a long time. Infact, IPB has been using it for there blog system for over 5 years now and for the last two years in their ACP backend for anything that needs re-ordering. DOM is a free script to manipulate any way you feel for your needs.

The main issue as I see it is we want to use MySpace Layouts. In order to use MySpace layouts they need to clone the HTML and CSS class/id names. I doubt anyone especially a company selling a social networking script will want to clone CSS classes and ids that MySpace provides.
It would be cool though, however unlikly even if released for free as if our sites grow and MySpace finds out I don’t think they would be too happy.
Hello,
When will version 2 be available?

Excellent, Social marketing is an adaptable approach, increasingly being used to achieve and sustain behaviour goals on a range of social issues, it is a very good post .
