How to install ffmpeg, ffmpeg-PHP, Mplayer, Mencoder, flv2tool, LAME MP3 Encoder, and Libog
For those that use the phpFox Video Module and want to allow users the ability to upload videos from their computers you will need to install certain programs in order for phpFox to convert these videos so they can be viewed via the Flash Video Player we provide.
In the past I had to install these programs on different operating systems. If you are using Red Hat or Fedora (Linux) here is a great article on how to install these programs from source. Note that in the article they guide you to use “yum”. If you don’t have “yum” installed you can use “up2date”, which is what I used as I didn’t have “yum” installed on the particular server I was testing the module on.
If you are using Debian Etch or Ubuntu (Linux) here is a great article on how to install these programs.
I have tested both methods of installing these programs and both worked perfectly.
Good luck!

Can you please confirm that all modeules including video module can work on Windows + IIS ?
I know that the ffmpeg, ffmpeg-PHP and all the other tools required to make it work. But basically can you confirm that all these things will work together on Windows + IIS.
I cannot find a authoritative answer or users who have done this before.

All modules will work on Windows IIS. If your Windows server has support for ffmpeg, ffmpeg-PHP and the other required video tools then the Video module will also work on a Windows IIS web server.
The only problem you may encounter is with short URs, which we use Apaches mod_rewrite. However, I have written a small entry about getting this working on IIS here:
http://blog.phpfox.com/2008/11/18/apache-mod_rewrite-for-iis/
If you encounter any problems getting any of the modules to work on IIS please add it to our Bug Tracker so we can take a look:

Thanks!

Thank you.
There’s also another, easier way that might work for many users. It’s a little script called “ffmpeginstall ”
You just download it, run the script, and watch it do something like 15 minutes of work automatically.

It’s what I used to setup my new box, and I was floored at how easy it was after getting big quotes from techs for the install. I sent the author, Sherin, a $40 donation, and he was very courteous and grateful. Nice, talented guy.
Maybe if you guys evaluate it, and decide it’s ok for a large # of users (I’m just n=1, small sample size!), you could could bundle it w/phpfox?
It took me many hours to find it, and a lot of toil dealing with techs who couldn’t do it on their own. I know a lot of new phpfox customers would probably be grateful if they knew about it.
Kindly,
Cyber

Thanks for the info. Been looking for an automated script to share with clients and this might be it. Will give it a try and hopefully we can share this with others.
Thanks again!

Can you suggest some links to installing all the required modules for PHPFox on Windows + IIS? I tried asking to ur pre sales team, but I think they hv info only on Apache. I am able to get bits n pieces on web but the problem is there is no definitive answers on how to configure it to PHPFox. Like the Gallery software provides a nice guide for installation. Why cant PHPFox have something like that?

A small note….I can help to document it and maintain it on my site (at no charge) if you offer me initial support and necessary info on PHPFox related settings on Windows + IIS for each of those modules.

I haven’t come across a good guide on how to get this up and running on Windows + IIS.
At the time of when developing the module FFMPEG and Mencoder just came into the picture and there was no Windows support, it was then mainly used on Linux distros. I will keep looking and see if I can find anything, I will ask the other developers if they can spend some time testing this module on a Windows + IIS setup.

Are you on a dedicated or vp server with root access to your server? If not it would be best to contact your host and ask if they have support for ffmpeg.
