phpFox2 RC4 Released
We are pleased to announce that phpFox2 RC4 (Release Candidate 4) has been released for public testing.
RC4 introduces mainly fixes in preparation for the stable release and the completed default language package (English U.S.).
With the completion of the default language package this will now allow the product to be translated into other languages.
RC4 was scheduled to be our final RC version before hitting our stable release, which we estimated was going to be released on November 4, 2009; however we feel the product is not ready and do not want to risk rushing and releasing an unstable product to only thereafter release patches. We are pushing back the final stable release date to December 23, 2009. Every Wednesday until that date we will be releasing a new RC version so clients who are already running phpFox v2 for their live sites will be up-to-date with all the latest bug fixes.
To make up for the delay we will develop 3 new features that will work similar to how it works on Facebook. These features include…
1) Mutual friends block on a users profile.
2) Friends suggestions within the sites dashboard.
3) Like/Unlike system on news feeds.
On November 4th, RC6 will be released and this version will be fully supported by our official support team. RC4 is already supported in terms of install/upgrade issues and once we reach RC6 it will be fully supported.
For anyone that will have their “Support & Upgrade Renewal” run out before stable release of phpFox2 will not have to worry about upgrading to phpFox2 and having to extend their “Support & Upgrade Renewal” package. Due to the recent delay every valid license holder can download phpFox2 free of charge on its final stable release date and any updates from that day and 30 days after.
If you would like to follow up with what version 2 offers check out our past releases:

RC4 just made my day!!! I highly believe PHPFOX is on top of the social game. I would like to see more features incorporated into the script and not plugins. Features like users being able to change their username if it is available, facebook connect, full language packages, better Help tutorials etc.
More user friendly interface - I wish I could buy an exclusive template for my site.
Thanks

Changing username is already possible and in RC4 language package should be ready to translate so new languages should be arriving soon

Now will the feed notifications be included as I think I remember this was considered/accepted by the devs, and personally I believe it to be the last big missing feature.
Also when the “fixed issue” of removing own activity from the activity list, this is an option right? Because even if admins set it to friends only you need to be able to see if someones commenting you, maybe some webmasters don’t want that but personally it lacks logic to me. (Fxcebook agrees!)

user have freedom to remove their own things(feed)… why do you care? you dont need a separate option for that.. its not gonna affect anything in the site ….if they remove…its like you remove your own video cus u dont like it after while…. same shit with the feeds…..
we need to focus on better things

You sir need to calm down; I thought it meant you can’t see your own activity, I was the one who suggested removing your own feed content.

Will we still be able to use RCs on our live sites? I want to release on November 4th and just patch along the way. Will this be possible?
[Reply]
I hope so because I can’t believe there is yet another delay for the stable release.

Rc or stable doesn’t matter…. as long as we have all the features and bug fixed… thats all… but yeah 2 months of delay its too much ..2 weeks would of be compremisable

I appreciate the delay to stable as I can see that there certainly is quite a lot to be done still. I wouldn’t want it rushed.. and it is an excellent compromise to start supporting rc5 and to include the newly announced features. Thank you phpFoX. Although I would also like to see the facebook connect as well, but I think people should be reminded that it’s already been stated that that will be released as a plugin. I’m all for the contact importer though, we’re a little behind on that one.
Lastly, with respects to the facebook connect.. I hope that it can be extended to included photos from the API as well. On my wordpress blog I automatically import all my photos from facebook to my website. I can even control will albums and such are shared. VERY cool feature. Perhaps you can get most of the coding from the free wordpress extension
Let me know.

I don’t know if anyone mention this yet.. But I haven’t seen anything being said about how to make the sites generate revenue. Have you guy address the advertisement section yet? I mean will we be able to display advertisements to monetize our social network. By creating ad campaigns, and determine exactly where our ads will appear, how long they will be displayed, and who they will be shown to. Will we be able to run specific ads to users based on users interests or personal characteristics and demographics (e.g. their profile information). Also to target ad campaigns for specific user levels and/or subnetworks. will there be a feature for someone other than members to pay and upload their ad immediately. will we have multiple ad space and sizes to choose from such as left right, above below menu etc. Will we able to name the add campaigns, start and end date with time, total views, clicks allowed and minimum CTR with the ability to set unlimited. How will the campaign owners monitor all this.
when will all this be mention? these features are already available on social engine

The ad manager has been a part of v2 since BETA 3, you can read up on it here.
You can view the images on how the AdminCP looks here.
Here is the request for ad space for sale to ordinary members.
Feel free to add your feedback in the threads/reports so it will be easier for us to follow up.
Thank you,

This looks great. However, it is amazing to me that there are many Facebook inspired features on this release yet it leaves out a very important, sticky feature of Facebook - it is seen in many TV adverts for various products. Facebook.com/product.
These are built via the PAGES feature of Facebook.
Sorry to say that Groups is not up to the task of Facebook Pages. Not close.
Disappointed.

For the pages feel free to submit a feature request here.
As for the group, you are welcome to share your feedback on what can be improved with this module in this section.
Thank you,

Pages on FB is for the most part a profile that doesn’t require it’s own login and can have admins assigned -
Any member with an account can start a page. It can be for a business, service, entertainer, or whatever.
It may be very difficult to add but for FB it is a HUGE feature.

I have a few questions
1)how do I disable “Cancel your account” ??
2)You can display a separate page who is rated “video, photo, profile, etc.” ??
3)can not I download a language file, and all that can be exported.
After you export the downloaded archive of weight 0 bytes and does not open.
4)I can not find where to enable the option uploading photos to your profile registration
sorry for my bad English))

1)how do I disable “Cancel your account” ??
- This is a UserGroup setting, so you go to your AdminCP >> Users >> UserGroup Manager >> Manage UserGroup >> (Choose which UserGroup you wish for this to be enabled for then click “Manage UserGroup Settings”) >> User >> Can members of this user group delete their own account? >> No.
2)You can display a separate page who is rated “video, photo, profile, etc.” ??
- Did you mean a page with the top rated items in general? This page is not included in the page, but a developer told me that this page is not too hard to accomplish although, it will require adding a controller and some queries to the database.
3)can not I download a language file, and all that can be exported.
After you export the downloaded archive of weight 0 bytes and does not open.
- Please report your issue here.
4)I can not find where to enable the option uploading photos to your profile registration
- This is also a UserGroup setting. You do the same step as above and go to the exact same location as mentioned earlier. This time you look for the option “Users are required to upload a profile image? ” and set it to “Yes”.
Please add your suggestions/feedback/questions/reports in the v2 forums or the bugtracker.
Thank you,

No.
I had a different view.
For example appreciate my photos> I get the notification, the entrance to my account, I can see who rated my photo and what assessment he has put me.

How to import a language pack? Where it must be placed? Always get the message “Nothing new to install.”

Hey, I tried upgrading to RC4 from RC3 and it overwrote everything. Luckily I got a backup.
What’s the best way to upgrade without overwriting all our design work and member pics/settings etc?
